I walk my dogs every day, passing a park with an adjacent elementary school. I see many piles of dog excrement along the sidewalks surrounding the park and school. There are many trash cans available for dog waste, but no one seems to care. As a matter of fact, there used to be disposable dog poop bags available near each trash can. No one used them…dog waste was all around the area.
Does the general public not know that children can be infected with intestinal parasites from dogs? These kids are playing in the dirt! How many kids go in from recess and wash under their fingernails?
There should be no reason to not scoop the poop. If you want more info on parasites and your pets, visit CAPC.

Over Labor Day weekend 2011, Jana Gurley, (a former employee and friend of Custer McDermott Animal Hospital) and her family lost their home in the Bastrop fires. Thankfully they are all safe, including their three kitties. They did not have much time to gather belongings and lost most everything in the fire. Any help regarding donations are appreciated. Until the Gurleys set up a temporary residence, Jessie Foley will be collecting donations. Please let us know if you would like to help the Gurleys out in this tough time.

Custer McDermott Animal Hospital now has a pet adoption page. We work closely with DFW Cocker Spaniel Rescue, DFW Lab Rescue, and North Texas Westie Rescue as well as with some individuals who can no longer keep their pets. We will add pets periodically that are looking for loving homes. If you have any questions about the pets that are added to our site please contact us.
These are just a couple of pets that are in need of a new home.
